SCENE: Night.  Two full moons in sky.  Kara Zor-El's bedroom in a house on Rokyn.  We begin with a POV that is over the house and quickly move in, as if flying to and through her bedroom window, drapes blowing in the wind.  We see a white hand reaching out to brush them away.  Then we are inside the bedroom, and quickly beside the sleeping Kara herself.  This is timed so that the music vamp ends and we hit the lyrics, which are sung by Morpheus.

A white hand reaches out and gently touches Kara's hair.  Then it brushes her face.

 Hush now, don't you cry
Wipe away the teardrops from your eye

Pull back to see her full-figure in bed, though we don't see Morpheus yet.

 You're lying safe in bed

We have a shot of Kara's sleeping face as the screen begins to do a dream-morph.

It was all a bad dream spinning in your head

The scene fades into the climax of the canonical CRISIS #7: the Anti-Monitor battling with Supergirl in his castle of living stone, Superman beaten bloody and lying with Dr. Light trying to care for him.

Your mind tricked you to feel the pain

The Anti-Monitor kills Supergirl.

Of someone close to you leaving the game...of life

Kara's sleeping face, tossing in torment, is superimposed over Supergirl's dead face.

So here it is, another chance

Kara tossing in her bed.  We might see a hint of Morpheus from the back, but only a hint.

Wide-awake you face the day, your dream is over...

In the pause, our POV switches so we see Morpheus face-on.  We know he's the Sandman.  He reaches out to Kara's hand, pulls her dream-self up, and it is dressed in a Supergirl costume.

 Or has it just begun?

Morpheus takes the somewhat bewildered Supergirl self and, holding her hand, flies with her through the window, into the night.  We see them flying above Rokyn.  She is uncertain, but thinks that perhaps Morpheus may indeed be an ally.

He turns to her and sings the lyrics:

 There's a place I like to hide

Morpheus gestures and a door in space opens, and he bids Supergirl enter (which she does), as he sings:

A doorway that I run through in the night.

Now we're inside the Dreaming, a kaleidoscope of bits and pieces of dreams, and Supergirl is shocked.  But Morpheus enters right behind her, puts his hand on her shoulder, and guides her through the dreamscape.

 Relax, child, you were there
But only didn't realize it and you were scared

The two of them fly above the surface of the Dreaming.  They see a waterlogged Abel crawling up out of a well, and Cain throwing him an anvil which he catches and which causes him to fall down the well again.  We briefly see Brute dribbling Glob like a basketball, the Corinthian's skull, a glimpse of Fiddler's Green turning to Gilbert and then back to a landscape again.

It's a place where you will learn
To face the fears, retrace the years

Cut to Dream flying side-by-side with Supergirl, advising her with the song.

And ride the whims of your mind.

They land on solid ground, and he conjures up another doorway.

 Commanding in another world

He directs her attention to it.  She looks through.

Suddenly you hear and see this magic new dimension

We catch a glimpse of Supergirl battling the Anti-Monitor again, as before.  Supergirl in the Dreaming looks on.  Then she leaps up and flies through the doorway.

I will be watching over you.

Morpheus lurks invisibly near Supergirl as she smashes into the Anti-Monitor headlong, knocking him off his pins and away from Supergirl-2.

I am gonna help you see it through.

Morpheus observes as both Supergirls smash into Anti-Monitor.  The Anti-M grabs Supergirl's leg and zaps her with agonizing energies.

I will protect you in the night.

Supergirl-2 attacks Anti-Monitor and gets Supergirl free.  Morpheus still beside them, invisible.  We focus on him for the last three words of the next lyric:

I am smiling next to you, in Silent Lucidity.

During the instrumental break, we have the final battle against the Anti-Monitor.  Supergirl grabs Anti-Monitor's head, Supergirl-2 sinks hands into his body, and both pull in opposite directions.  Cut to: Superman-1 and other heroes hurtling through doorway (sideview) and pointing in their direction.  The heroes (Superman-1, the Marvel Family, Power Girl, the Wonder Women, and even Superman-2, who pulls himself together to help) pitch in and tear at the Anti-Monitor's body.  Finally Supergirl pulls his head off, smashes backwards into a wall.  Wildfire takes the head of the Anti-Monitor from her, lifts his visor, puts the head inside himself, and flies through a window as Supergirl raises a hand, trying to warn him.

Morpheus stands invisibly among the melee, and delivers the spoken lines.

 Visualize your dream.

Death approaches the Supergirls, and Dream holds out a hand to stop her in her tracks.

Record it in the present tense.

Wildfire rockets into space, with the energies of the Anti-Monitor reacting against his own energies.  His costume pulses, and we can sense an explosion not far in the future.

Put it into a permanent form.

Raven lays hands on one Supergirl and strives to take on her pain and disperse it, leaving her healed.

If you persist in your efforts

Raven heals the other Supergirl in the same way, suffering till the pain is dispersed, with the other heroes gathered round to lend encouragement.

 You can achieve

Chest-up shot of Morpheus, in center screen.

 Dream control.

Shot of Wildfire blowing up and forming star.  Morpheus's visage warps over it, transparently.

 Dream control.

Shot of five Earths, bound by anti-matter energy, now freed as the anti-energy dissipates.  Morpheus's face warps over them, transparently.

 Dream control.

Raven has healed both Supergirls.  Superman-1 holds his Supergirl, and says the following line:

 How's that then, better?

Supergirl, still propped sitting against the wall, looks on as Supergirl-2 embraces Superman, and says the words:

 Hug me.

He does.

Supergirl looks on Superman and Supergirl-2 embracing, and the other heroes celebrating victory--but suddenly, they realize Superman-2 is dead, and, led by Power Girl, rush to his body.  Supergirl sees Death leading Superman-2's ghost away.

Morpheus appears beside Supergirl, touches her shoulder, and gets her attention.  He gestures, and forms another doorway.

If you open your mind for me

Morpheus takes them both through the doorway into the Dreaming again.  He passes a hand over her face and closes her eyes.

You won't rely on open eyes to see.

Morphus flies beside her, singing to Supergirl, who has her eyes closed and is seeing the visions he feeds to her.

 The walls you built within

Shot of Supergirl's face.

 Come crumbling down

With Supergirl's face superimposed on it, we see Superman flying into Lois's apartment, proposing to her, and getting kissed.

And a new world will begin.

Supergirl's face is superimposed over Superman and Supergirl-2 flying back to Earth-One, then Superman's funeral on Earth-Two, with Lois in widow's black, Jimmy Olsen, and several JSA heroes in mourners' garb at the graveside.

Living twice at once you learn

Morpheus is back, singing to the closed-eyed Supergirl and flying beside her.  We get a glimpse of the Dreaming.  Cain, Eve, Brute, Glob, and Lucien wave at them from below.  So does Abel, who is just getting out of the well again. Cain flashes him a nasty look and Abel grins sheepishly.  Destiny turns another page in his book, then looks surprised, as if he found a misprint, turns the page back again, then forward, and finally accepts it.

You're safe from the pain in the dream domain
A soul set free to fly

Morpheus stops Kara again and conjures up another dream-door.

Master of illusion, can you realize

Morpheus sings to Kara in earnest now.  It's almost time to leave.

Your dream's alive, you can be the guide but--

He pushes her through the door again.  She falls through and into the real world again, and merges with her real-self.  We switch to a shot from behind Morpheus's head as he watches it.

 I--will be watching over you.

Shot of Morpheus standing invisibly over Kara.

I--am gonna help to see it through.

Shots of JLA heroes on Earth-One, JSA on Earth-Two, Marvel Family on Earth-S, Charlton heroes on Earth-Four, and Freedom Fighters on Earth-X, and all of them seem to have a happier, more hopeful aspect about them, in victory.  Morpheus's face is superimposed over each scene.

I--will protect you in the night.

Cut back to: A backshot of  Morpheus standing looking down at the sleeping Kara in her bed.

I am smiling next to you.

We cut to a closer shot of Kara's face.  Then we cut to a fuller shot of her and the room, the wind blowing the curtains about somewhat, and Morpheus is not there.

We have another shot of Kara sleeping in bed.  We pull back and see it is in a scrying-pool on a tripod, and Morpheus, his sister Death, and several other Dreaming occupants are watching an image of her sleeping in the pool's surface.  We dolly in slowly towards her face, and as the lullaby notes finish out the song, close with a shot of Kara sleeping peacefully with a gentle smile.
